So I didn’t get as much done this weekend as I had hoped, but progress was made. Got to spend several hours in the garage on Saturday, and basically spent the whole time splitting time between the jointer, table saw, and thickness planer. It was amazing how much time it took to straighten and size the lumber. I got a lot of the face frame stock ready, but not all of it. Here’s the resulting pile o’ wood.
Sunday was spent actually making a couple face frames. After cutting them to size, I pulled out the pocket hole jig. Gotta say, that thing is worth every penny. It really makes putting the frames together a snap.
There were a couple setbacks while working on the frames, but things seem to be working out. All the frames are done for the upper cabinets and one for the lower. I have a few things to work out before doing the rest of the lowers -gotta go back to my plans and look up a few stile thicknesses. Here’s the result of this weekend’s work.
That pile of cherry lumber is getting smaller all the time!
I spent a couple evenings this week working on the plans that I’ll submit to the city. I’ve never had to do this kinda thing before, so this probably won’t cut it, but we’ll see. Figured I’d post em to give you guys a picture of what we’re going to do for this remodel. Click on em to enlarge.
And here’s my new best tool. Not as flashy as the rest of my stuff, but it’s been my best friend. It’s just a push stick, but I don’t know how I got along pushing narrow pieces of stock through the saw without it.
Last thing, here’s the mock-up of a face frame & door (it’s sitting inside another cabinet in this picture). We’re going to make another door with a narrower frame, but what do you think?
