So I wasn’t planning on updating this blog so often, and I don’t want to set the bar too high by posting three days in a row, but I just had to do a quick one to show the latest stuff.
So the cherry is now stacked with stickers between all the boards to allow air to circulate around them. I’ve heard too many stories about wood warping because the lumber wasn’t allowed time to “acclimate” to it’s surroundings (my garage). Needless to say, I have some time to work on other stuff while I wait a couple days for the lumber. So I decided to do a face frame just to see how it looks on one of the carcasses. I found a piece of Poplar and a piece of Birch for my mock-up. So I ran the two boards through the jointer, table saw, and thickness planer and a few minutes later I had the four pieces of wood for the rails & stiles of my face frame. Next I busted out my pocket hole jig and screwed/glued the frames together. Then grabbed Dad’s biscuit jointer and mounted the biscuits to the back of the frame. The whole thing went onto the cabinet like a glove! Not bad for a first try! Only one problem -which I will leave as an exercise for the reader to discover in the pics below.

Check it out. The top rail is Birch, everything else is Poplar. This is one of the shallow cabinets -almost looks good now eh?

Notice the bottom of the carcass has a quarter inch showing -this will act as a door stop. (also this view really shows my mistake well)
I’m thinking that I’ll start working on getting my documents in order for my permit application with the city. I’m hoping that they like my plans, or this whole kitchen project might have to go “underground” (j/k).
